We describe our flight from London Heathrow to Houston as 'direct', rather than 'non-stop'
really? I thought planes stoped when they took on fuel unlees BA have a fleet of MIG fighter jets that refuel in the air.
get on to abta or atol 1st
This is a complete mis selling and an utter UTTER lie.
Email phone and write to them every day you desreve a free flight to the same value WITH NO STOPS
Im angry for you.
It's common terminology, though misleading yes.
Many charter flights to places like Goa and Thailand are advertised as "direct flights", but they all stop in the Middle East to refuel and you get off for an hour.
Seen so many people looking round in bemusement as the plane starts to descend about 4 hours early......0 -
How did you book the flight? I ask as I fly the same route a few time a year, but only the LHR to ORD sector. When you book on line the site does describe the flight as direct, but it also states number of stops 1 therefore either you have been misslead, or just not read what you have booked.0

Forgot to add - 1.5 hours stay in chicago on teh return does sound a long time, but given the refuel, change of crew and boarding of quite a few more passengers at Chicago (it would have either been a B 777 of 747 holding 250 - 350) the time is not that unreasonable. Also as you didnt mention being late I assume that this time was factored in by BA and that you were aware of the duration of the journey so irespective of being on the ground or in the air you still got to LHR when you intended? Also on the subject of compo from BA I fly with them frequently, and if you complain they are most likely to offer you some free frequent flyer miles - not cash of free flight. At the end of the day you may have not got what you wanted, but I expect that you got what was described on the ba site.0

i dont know if the will give you compensation. but I do agree with you that it is misleading. i always thought if it was direct the the only stop i would expect to have would be when i land at my destination.
Airlines have to remember that we are all not experienced travellers and they need to explain their terminology more clearly0 -
I have to agree with some of the previous posts. Although it may not seem apparent to those outside the travel industry, the term "direct" is often taken to mean that no change of flight is required, although there may be a stop en route. For example, some of the Australia flights are listed as direct, although they would of course have a stop over.
The term you need to look for is non-stop.
Any booking - online or offline - should state if there is a touchdown involved.
I doubt BA would compensate you, but worth a try if it did mislead you.0
