At a stab in the dark, i would have a look at lastminute.com etc for their prices on flights, maybe a package. Get onto the local travel agent asking them for their best deal, you need to decide on how many nights, and what standard of accomodation you require.
Once they give you the name of the hotel, and maybe a brochure and a price, you have a target to beat.
Break the journey down into steps,
1. Can you get a visa.? (increased security, any recent criminal records, if in doubt contact USA Consulate in london)
2. Transfer to the airport (uk)
3. Flight
4. Transfer from the airport to the hotel (usa)
5. Hotel.?
6. From hotel to airport
7. Flight home
8. Transfer from airport
I went to west virginia with work earlier this year for 3 weeks, we stayed in 3* hotels that were about $160 a night, we had veichles where they were $60 a day, we drove to washington (3-hr drive) where in all between 5 of us cost £12 each. Fuel is really cheap out their, tho its a different world as you can turn on red lights,& not turn on some etc. The out of town shops are cheap, i came across some timberland, seiko, nike, reebok outlets which were extremely cheap where people were leaving clothes behind.
Taxi's are not too bad, tho some can rip you off. If you dont know where your going. Their seems to be a 15% extra tipping charge for the service you recieve as they dont get paid for it i think. The sales tax is about 4% i believe so something that is $35 is more like $36-37 etc..
If i was too go, i would book one nights stay, then bum it about from their, hotel - hotel. Maybe search for the hotel online and try to get your own deal with them. They should be able to give you advice on how to get to them, and maybe supply a cab for you.
As to flights, goto the airport website you want to go from. Start searching from their....
Good Luck...get ya $$$'s now why its close too $2 to a £1..was $1.6 - £1 last year..0 -
I lived in New York about 7 years ago and went back to visit last year. We stayed in the Youth Hostle International out there. If you can get your head round it, it is very cheap and you can have private rooms with your own bathroom. Check out the website.
When we went I thought we could save some money by going via Holand, it saved us about £70.00 each, but we had a 9 hour delay in the airport so if I was you fly direct!!
Have fun its a fab city!0
