How do I report an email from DR Congo asking for cash

I have heard about these emails and always wondered how people get them, are they certain people, people who have travelled to/through certain countries, the elderly, the rich, just who got them.

Then this morning I had a heart felt email from Mrs Mable. Poor old Mrs Mable has had a real time of it lately. Her son murdered her husband, who was no other than President Kabila of DRC! She has $22 million which she cant get hold of and for reasons unknown to me, has decided I would be a good candidate to help in getting her money back. To cut a very long story short, all the details must be kept secret, the Lovely Mrs Mable will put money into my bank account if i give her my details and for my trouble I will get 10% of her $22 million!

As if being a part of a murderous, thieving family wasnt enough for poor Mrs Mable, she is also a refugee in a Abijdan.

Mrs Mable must be at her wits end, and asks that I act fast to save her life!!

So fast I shall be, who do you contact to report these scams? Is there somewhere to forward them on to? I dont want to delete the email until I know there is nothing i can do to bring it to someones attention.

There is nothing you can do to bring it to someones attention (well there is, but you aren't telling them anything they don't already know).

    You can delete the email.
    Gone ... or have I?

Just delete it like everyone else.

If we all started reporting them, the reports would become more of a problem than the emails being reported.

One email sent to 600,000 people, then 600,000 people start sending emails all over the place trying to report it??!!!?!?

Just get used to it and delete them. Let someone else worry about stopping them,

Who would you report it to?
There isn't a global police force to oversee scams from "Africa".
  • Well I have had a quick look on the internet and have come up with the 419 scam, which this seems to be.

I found two sites that are quite good

    http://www.scambuster419.co.uk/
    http://www.419scam.org

I have forwarded the email to both the servers (yahoo.co.uk and dataful.com) that were mentioned in the email.

Okay, it may not get anything done, and yes, loads of people sending emails all over the place may be a bit to deal with, but I have done something.

I thought Nigeria was offline at the moment due to their umbilical cord internet cable being cut/damaged/blown up

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8176014.stm

I love this bit, where they are arranging a ship to come and fix the cable.
Mr Okuneye said that by the time the relevant paperwork was done, it was likely to be "two weeks" before the ship arrived off the coast.

I bet getting the paperwork involves all manor of "release fees" and bribes etc to be paid upfront :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Bored Housewife: When the people above said that noone cares (in nicer language), they were right. You've already forwarded it to two recipients who don't care, and thus wasted a few seconds of their time. Please don't bother forwarding it to anyone else.

Have you ever noticed that any country which has 'Democratic' in its name not only isn't but is almost always an awful hell-hole?
