Currys not in a hurry!!

My son bought a TFT TV from Currys a few months ago. 6 weeks ago the HDMI port broke so we took it back. Currys were quite happy to send it back to Toshiba for repairs.

28 days on, and no TV, not to worry, Currys originally told us we could have a new TV if it wasn't back with us in 28 days. So off we went to Currys, there then ensued a farcical conversation. It went something like this -

"Hi, we've come about the TV, we have been told that we can have a new one"
"You need to give us the remote for us to be able to finalize it all "
"
But we gave YOU the remote along with the TV"
"It's not listed on the manifest. Are you sure you haven't got it?"
"No, we don't have the remote, it definately got given to you."

After much searching 'out the back',
"We can't find the remote, you must still have it"
"I expect it went to Toshiba with the TV"
"Possibly. OK, we'll let you have a new TV, but we're no happy about it"

The first TV he chose turned-out to be 'out of stock' despite the computer telling them that they had 1 left, so back over to the display of TV's to pick another. Second time lucky. Now have one happy son.

The whole conversation took-up 1 hour of my time, and reminded me of Monty Pythons' 'Dead parrot' sketch.

Currys have turned really expensive nowadays for some reason....possibly to pay for their store and identity revamp. Only last week I was looking for a kettle!! For the same kettle:

    Argos: £34.95,
    Comet: £24.99 normal price,
    Currys: "Was £59.99 now £39.99"
...yeah I know its just a kettle(!), and if there was a couple of quid diference, then I wouldn't whinge. But even with a half-price discount, Currys were £15 more pricey than Comet. Why so greedy?!

    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

The port simpley stopped working. Cheap HDMI leads are easy to break though, the pins bend-up easily, but are hard to flatten again.

They probably think by saying that, it's given them the upperhand in the situation even though they gave in like they should have.

Are you sure you haven't got the remote OP? :p

When I worked at Argos and had to give in to a customer we had to make out that we were doing them a favour. Gesture of goodwill came into it a lot!
