Pet cremation - London area

Just wondering if anyone's used any of the cremation services avaliable, and what they're like, or even a cost idea? Lost on of my tribe earlier today, and have buried her, and didn't really think about the cremation option until after we'd buried her, but we'll have to think about this next time its needed (not for ages I hope!), but wondered if anyone's used anything like this?

i am so sorry about your loss, i hope you are coping, people underestimate the effect the death of a pet can have on someone.
i am based in islington/city area and my vet (and most vets in the area i believe) use the Cambridge Pet Crematorium just outside Cambridge. The CPC make about 2 collections a week from a vets, they take the pet away and then cremate it. You can attend the cremation if you want, or you can arrange for the ashes to be delivered back to your vet for collection.
i attended the cremation of my last pet who passed away, i got to spend a little time with her again which felt really lovely, and it also gave me a bit of closure too - she was a little cold to touch for obvious reasons, but she still looked so beautiful. the CPC has a wonderful Gardens of Rememberance, and I waited there whilst they prepared the ashes so i could take her away with me - i waited around 2-3 hours.
here is a link: http://www.cpccares.com/garden-of-remembrance.htm
one word of advice - most pet crematoriums are part of quite large mutli-use animal waste disposal facilities, whose main business is to dispose of general animal waste, clinical waste from vets/labs/zoos etc. however having said that, the pet crematorium aspect of the business is usually very well shielded off from the more industrial aspect of the business. as you can see from the link above, CPC is a very beautiful place. even though my cat is not buried there i went there this year on the anniversary of her death and spent some time in the gardens to remember her.
if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask

Well, my aunt rushed her to the vets, as she'd been poisoned, exactly the same as her brother, who died late last year, and they put her down, as she was dying, and it was best for her, her spirit had gone, her body was fighting. She pondered whether to fight to keep her alive so I could get there, but we didn't want her sufferring as her brother seemed to, and she signed the paperwork, not even thinking about cremation, but we discussed it tonight while burying her, as we still have 6 lovely cats, so going to end up going through it again, and our garden's too small to bury them all.
Thankyou ever so much, i've found cemetaries, but I couldn't bear the thought of my babies being far away, and never really heard about anyone having a pet cremation done, it helps~*Cerenia*~

I take it Cerenia you have lost a cat? My condolences.
To lose a pet IMO, is to lose a member of your family.
A member here had their cat cremated earlier this year and had a poor experience.
My darling Dog was cremated too in May this year at a private local Crematorium. They will not accept animals fom a Vet unless instructed by the family of that pet. So no mass cremations and no ashes returned apart from the pet's own. I had a healing experience. They were amazing.
You've raised a good point Cerenia and one we should all address. What to do when our pets die?0 -
Yes, I lost one of my babies, not even 24 hours ago, and its just hit me opening my bedroom door and her not being there asleep next to it, but I feel even worse because someone must have put some sort of poison down, for her to have either eaten it directly, or eat something that had eaten it, so feel more angry than anything now, nobody else seems to have lost a cat since I moved here a few years ago, and we've lost 3, 2 to poison, one to a speeder~*Cerenia*~

These are the people we use to pts sleep horses and collect any that have died. They are lovely to deal despite being quite matter of fact IYSWIM.
I know you can take a pet to them for individual cremation yourself...a friend of mine did this with her dog and they were a third of the price of going through a vets.
WARNING. I have never been to their yard and (as Lowis said) I don't know how industralised it is or whether there is anywhere for grieving owners, you'd have to ask them directly.0 -
Sorry for your loss
If you are in south London these might be closer

I had Ted (RIP) cremated here, on his own so I could have just his ashes & they are in a hollowed wooden cat, he's curled up by the fire now.
I can't remember how much, but it wasn't that much, about £150 for the service, the seperate cremation & the wooden urn.
Hugs to you x0 -
after mutter's post i would just like to add that you can elect to have your pet cremated individually if your prefer - it is slightly more expensive but i think it is worth it you can also take the pet to CPC yourself, you don;t have to go through the vet.
as i recall, i think a regular mass cremation costs around £50, and an individual cremation was about £80 and it costs another £50 to attend.
hope you are doing ok today

Thanks all. Feeling awful, the rain's horiffic, and I feel bad her being there, cold and alone, Waking up this morning and not seeing her in her usual sleeping spot, waiting for me to wake up hurt quite a lot as well, but she'll always be in my heart, and i'm sure wherever she is, she's with her brother, and they're both happy and safe~*Cerenia*~
