Sky high cost of car insurance!

We have a 2002 Mitsubishi Carisma 1.8 petrol car which we have had since new, we have just been quoted £449 to re-insure it fully comp. We need to keep the insurance fully comp for business reasons, but the cost of insurance cannot be far off what the car is worth-can this be right?

We have tried another broker who came up with a similar pirce, but it seems ridiculous, anyone had the same problem?

Why do you need it fully comp for business reasons? Does your insurance know you are using the car for business??

Doesnt stop you driving it into a £50,000 car and writing that one off or knocking down a pedestrian and the insurer having to pay out a million pounds.

In an accident there is a high probability that other vehicles or people will be involved.

No. I would never drive a Mitsubishi Carisma.

It's not a particularly high insurance group car I wouldn't have thought - WHAT CAR says 9-13 depending on the exact model.

However the premium depends on a lot more factors than that. Postcode, drivers (age, experience, convictions, accidents), use, annual mileage, excess and so on - even down to where it's usually parked overnight.

Have you tried the comparison sites in Martin's ARTICLE on car insurance? If those are coming up with the same sort of price then you're stuck with it I'm afraid.
  • Many things effect the car insurance price. As you say its only worth a little amount, would you not want to consider third party fire and theft?

I had one for 12+ years, 1390cc, 120,000 miles, and of the 20 or so cars i've owned, going back to 1961, it was defineately the best (whatever that means) car I've had. 'Did what it said on the box', averaged 62mph from Bridisi to Holland ferry, with one overnight stop, and 52mpg. The best looking car I've owned; solid, comfortable, frugal and FAST! Oh, and original exhaust and NO repairs in that time.
