Hotels in Venice & Milan

Can anyone recommend any hotels in Venice & Milan or know any sites for good hotels which is affordable for end of May?
Also, has anyone been to Verona near Venice and do you recommend going there?
Thanks

Don't know much about Milan except the airport! However Venice.... We have had some wonderful times there.

Hotel... If you go to Venice the hotels there are hugely expensive because you have to get a water taxi/bus from the airport - but the airport is right on the canals so not too bad. HOWEVER - just outside of venice is a Hotel called Ai Pini find it here http://www.hotelaipini.it/en/index.htm We first went there when it was just a country house converted to a hotel in the more recent years it has been changed into quite a big buisiness hotel but still retains excellent service and family staff. If you stay there, just across the road not more than two minutes walk is the local bus to Venice. It did cost a standard rate of 1 Euro to travel to Venice where you then need to take either the water transport or shank's pony. If you decide on the water variety - take the water bus it is not so romantic as a gondola or a taxi but far far cheaper. A must to visit is the islands of Murano and Burano - Murano is where they make the famous venetian glass and you can do tours around the factories. Venice is fantastic to wander through with the maze of narrow alleyways and non ending bridges - please always remember to keep an eye out for pick pockets it can get very busy and bustling. Back to the Hotel Ai Pini - just around the corner is the most bestest in the whole world pizzeria - and I have had a few pizzas here and there - its called or sounds something like Cikirikara - Translated I think it means Cockrell the reception staff at the hotel know of it. The other restaurant is just over the main roundabout outside the hotel - can't think of the name but you will find it. Definitely well worth a visit and so close to Venice without the hassle of the car - Superb.

For both places, I would very much recommend having a look on https://www.venere.com - reasonable prices on there (which you don't have to pay in advance), plus lots of really useful info, maps, and reviews of each hotel. And you can get a 4% discount with the code: BK5HX8W

    Hope that helps
  • Booked through Venere before & got good accomodation. Also booked through BBplanet.it. Might be worth a try.

I got a ticket at the airport for about 20 euros which covered the airport bus and all vaporetto trips for a full 72 hours from first using it. Excellent value as a single trip on the grand canal can be over 3 euros. Locanda San Augustin was a lovely place to stay but look at reviews of hotels on Trip Advisor.com

benu, I'd strongly recommend Tripadvisor website, ( https://www.tripadvisor.com ). It ranks the hotels (all types and prices) according to customer reviews and has an excellent forum for every destination. I've used it for travel around Europe, Canada, Egypt and South Africa. It does also give hotel price comparisons from hotels.com, expedia etc but some good hotel agents are missing. Before booking any holidays now I always do my research on tripadvisor.

Thank guys for all your advice. I'm flying by Ryan Air to Venice so the airport is prob far from central. I'm looking to stay near the attractions as i do not want to travel far from the hotel. Is San Marco area the best place to stay?
    Thanks

We stayed at the Commercio and Pellegrino hotel which is two minutes walk from St Marks and about 100 yds from the waterbus stop. The location is superb if you want to be close to St M's and the Doges palace. The hotel is fairly small (about 25 rooms), clean and we had good service. It is a good budget hotel in an excellent location. We paid about £110 total per night for b&b in a double room which for Venice and the location is very good value. I think we booked through Octopus. The hotel's site is:
    http://www.commercioepellegrino.com/en/index.htm .
When we go again we will probably stay further away from St M's because it is touisty and busy there (plus expensive restaurants, cafes etc). Also Venice is very compact and you can walk from one end to the other in less than an hour so it doesn't matter where you stay. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Commercio and have no regrets. The water buses are great for getting about and save your feet. We can't wait to go back!

Hi, i went to Venice and spent time at st Marco's Sq as all the boats leave from there to other desinations.

Also went to Verona and Lake Garda. Verona was a beautiful place and we just got a train fron Venice which was not very expensive and a nice journey, i would definately reccommend it for a day trip.

    hth.

Benu - it really depends on what you want. Some people prefer quieter, less touristy parts of Venice. If you can find a hotel you like close to San Marco that fits your budget then go for it. It is a great place to hang out. A word of advice; check cafe/bar prices before you order especially if there is live music. People have been charged £25 for a coffee in St M's square!
Wherever you stay, there are interesting things all around. There is nowhere like Venice and one of the best things to do is simply to get lost in the side streets and just look around. You'll probably want to return (most people do) so where you stay the first time doesn't matter too much.
As Venice is a small city, you can see everything wherever you stay using your feet and the excellent water bus service.
