Hi
Was wondering if somebody can give me some advice please?
I have a reconditioned laptop which i bought 2 months ago and it seems to get really hot? When i'm charging it the adaptor gets to hot to touch and when i'm not charging it and sat with it on my lap the battery gets really hot and it starts making a noise (a fan?) When this happens the laptop seems to slow down.
Is this normal, only ever had a desktop PC before so not really sure.
Thanks
Jannine

The fan is designed to start when the laptop becomes too warm. You need to make sure you are not blocking any of the vents when using it. Sometimes the vents are underneath and using it on your lap can block these. Try it on a flat even surface such as a table and see what happens.
The charger does get quite warm, that is normal. If it becomes too hot to touch then you may have a problem.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
You could also check whether the airducts between the chip/fan/vent outlet are free of dust.0

When opening the unit get some masking tape and as you extract each screw tape it next to the hole and also draw an arrow pointing to the hole on the tape from where it was extracted. Nothing like the feeling of putting a long screw in a short screw hole and then finding out that you have shorted the electronics or damaging the dvd player

Thanks for the advice guys
I don't think i will be attempting to unscrew bits from my laptop (i have trouble changing a lightbulb:rotfl:) I think it is because i use my laptop on my knee with a cushion under it! I will start using my desk, i just like sitting on the sofa watching telly and working at the same time.
Thanks for the advice!

You can get small folding tables that allow you to sit on your sofa and use your laptop - It has curved metal legs which will slide under the sofa and a plastic top. I have one - here's an example.

How about putting the laptop on a flat dinner tray?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Just be sure to remove the dinner first though...
Seriously, a cushion (or duvet) is death to a laptop, block the vents/fans and it will soon overheat. Blow out the vents with a can of compressed air to make sure they are clean. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I would try using the soft vacuum cleaner brush to suck out any dust, it worked with mine a treat :-) ... you will still have to keep the air vents free though

if your laptop is dual-core, you'll find that it would run hotter than those with urm, single core
Also, on a physical note...using a laptop on your lap is very very bad for posture especially around the upper vertebrae. defeats the object but can cause alot of damage over time0
