Rust?
Hello,
I currently drive a Ford KA and i've noticed that there is some rust on the drivers door right at the edge. Now i don't want to ignore this and hope it goes away, what can i do to stop/repare this?
I'm not in a position to buy a new car and need to keep this one looking good so i can get maximum when i do decide to sell!
Thanks all!

Theres no easy or quick way to get rid of rust, it will always be there!
You can either get a new door and get it painted and fitted. Or get an approved bodyshop to cut out the whole section and weld a new bit on and fit it
I would go for a new door though tbh. Look on ebay etc for 10 -
You really have to decide whether it is cost effective to do anything. Age and value will be important.0

How old is the car? Within Fords 6 year warranty window?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

The car is 8 years old, so out of warrenty!
Its not a big patch, but is there anything i can do to stop it getting bigger? I will look into getting a new door? Are this easy to fit or will it need to go into a garage?
Thanks

To remove the rust a wire brush - or maybe even a drill with a wire brush attachment or angle grinder with a poly abrasive disc (power tools with great care), and some safety goggles. You have to get all visible rust off and get some nice shiny metal to work with. Remove the paint up to about an inch around the rust to ensure the rust underneath is removed too. You might make a hole to fill in, but if the rust isn't that bad (just bubbling paint) I doubt it.

For abrasives Halfords are expensive, www.toolstation.com are probably about the cheapest you'll get. They also sell primer which appears to be just as good as the halfords stuff http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Painting+Decorating/Spray+Paints/Industrial+Primer+500ml+Grey/d150/sd2737/p92867 they sell a lacquer which I've never tried, not sure if it's suitable for use on cars or would be as good as the Halords stuff http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Painting+Decorating/Spray+Paints/Industrial+Lacquer+500ml+Clear/d150/sd2737/p441320 -
If it's just a very small bit, you might be able to get away with a rub of light wire wool, dab of 'rust eater', then some touch up paint. Not a good fix but probably enough for it to be unnoticed if you're thinking of selling it soon, and cheap too.0

You can repair it as much as you like, but it will always come back.
If you want rid for good, get the door replaced.0 -
