    Hi there,

Sorry to butt in! Does this still apply if you have never made any payments towards your outstanding student loan?

I did two years of a history degree and left 3 years ago. Since then I have been working and have never made any payments to clear the outstanding loan.

I am now looking at the financial implications of going back.

If you have done 2 years. That means you will not have your first year paid for and you will have to find money for tuition fees.

I think you maybe still entitled to maintenance? Not 100% on that though.

I was at university 12 years ago. I did 1 and a bit years, and never took out a student loan. I'm going back in September and am having to fund the first year myself - I'm not eligible for the grant or bursary, or the tuition fee loan - all I'm entitled to is the full maintenance loan.

Why are you not getting any money from SF? I am having the same sort of problems with funding. Been told that I can't have any money this year. Still trying to get my head round why!!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I managed to get 5 years worth somehow! Did Yr1 of an HND, then Yr1 Marketing degree, changed course did Yrs 2 and 3 of Business Management degree as credits counted and then PGCE

Managed to earn way less than amount due to contract teaching so still haven't had to pay any back and next years earnings work out to about £14990:rotfl:

I believe your funding status is assessed on how many years tuition fees you claimed, not whether you've taken any loans out - and any part of a year (even 1 day) counts as a whole year. So I did 1 and a bit years (= 2 years), when tuition fees were approximately £1000 (which my parents paid in full) - but the £1000 was topped up by HEFCE to about £7000 (the full cost of one year's tuition). As to why you/I can't get any money in the first year - presumably because Student Finance England want to make sure we stay on the course. Because making us destitute is definitely the best way of doing that .
