iTunes on my External Hard Drive

I have purchased a 320GB external hard drive today from PC World for £109.99. The reason for the purchase was because I forever found myself passing files from my desktop at work to my laptop then my desktop at home. I wanted a way to put all the information on one hard drive so when I updated it I didn’t have to copy it to several places. The problem I have is I want to move my iTunes onto the dive with all my music (It’s stored in My Music folder) when I do this iTunes still thinks that the music is stored on my C drive, you can let iTunes know where each song is individually but with over 5000 songs I will be there all week.
Please does anybody know how I can sort this problem out, I suspect I’m going to have the same problem with the games on my computer?

Hi, this is copied form iTunes help:
Changing where your iTunes files are stored
By default, songs and other files you import are copied to the iTunes Music folder, in the iTunes folder in your My Music folder (inside your My Documents folder). You can choose to have your imported audio files copied to a different location.
You can also transfer files you've already imported from one location to another. For example, if you buy a new computer, you can move your iTunes files from the old computer to the new one.
Note: When you set iTunes to store your files in a new location, from that point on it copies newly imported files to that location. If you also want files that have already been imported into iTunes to be in the new location, you must manually move them (see below).
To move where imported audio (and other) files are stored from now on, choose Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click General. Click the Change button and select a new location for your files. New songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. Songs already imported stay in their current location (to move them, see below).
To move songs and other files you've already imported to a new location (for example, a different folder on your hard disk, or a different computer), choose Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click General. Click the Change button and select a new location for your files. Quit iTunes. Open the iTunes Music folder (by default, in the iTunes folder in the My Music folder inside your My Documents folder), select everything in the folder and drag it to the new location (do not drag the entire iTunes Music folder, only its contents).
To change the storage location for new songs you import back to the iTunes folder inside the My Music folder, click Reset (in the Advanced pane of iTunes Preferences, in the General section).
For information about finding out where individual audio files are stored, search help for "finding files."
For more tips on transferring files between computers, see this article on the Apple Support website: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93366.
Hope you find it useful. :beer:Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Check out the ideas on this Google search - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=+itunes+transfer+external+hard+drive&btnG=Search&meta=.
E.g. http://forum.ecoustics.com/cgi-bin/bbs/show.pl?tpc=1&post=556524#POST556524 looks like a sensible method.
Hope that helps.0
