Has anyone managed to get a phone line installed for free through the post office - I am curious as I would much prefer to go with them as they offer 1 month contracts as opposed to the 12 month rolling contract with BT.
I am moving to a new place (block of flats) in 2 weeks time and want to get ADSL so it means having to get a phone line installed. Don't fancy all the crap with BT such as having 2 make one chargeable call per month and it being on a 12 month rolling contract.
I looked into getting a phoneline installed with Post Office and ordered the line as I wanted to see if there would be a charge, I have also done the same with BT for the same reason, to find out if they would charge me.
If Post Office say there is a charge then I will tell them I'm going with BT. If BT tell me there is a charge with them then I will tell them about that free offer they have.
Just wanted to know if anyone has had a free line from Post Office.
Cheers guys

I have taken over an existing line, free, which was with BT, but I chose PO.
If the line has to be installed, then I doubt anyone will do it for free.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Do you mean you have moved into somewhere that had an existing line?
Do you think the Post Office could do this if there was an existing line in place?0 -
YesDo you mean you have moved into somewhere that had an existing line?
They did for me, but do you have an existing line? When you say you are moving to a 'new place', do you mean newly built or new to you? If it is totally new, then no one will ever have connected it, so you will have to pay a connection charge.Do you think the Post Office could do this if there was an existing line in place?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. OTOH, you should be able to take advantage of the free connection offer BT currently have.DVardysShadow wrote: »If it is totally new, then no one will ever have connected it, so you will have to pay a connection charge.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I am not 100% if there is an existing line or not - have not moved in as of yet but wanted to order it before I am there so that it is ready to use when I move in 2 weeks time.
Yeah I mean its new to me, not brand new built.0
