They use small versions of vhs tapes. You put them in an adaptor and can then use them in a vcr.

What are these "VHS" and "VCR" of which you speak? ;-)

  • It is not as bad as 'Haveagoade' is making out.

There are plenty of people out there who have used cameras similar to this over the years without developing a squint BEFORE camcorders with LCD screens were introduced.

It's very basic but also very inexpensive, you pay for what you get with camcorders. :D

The 'Morgancomputers' one is bit better but not £60 worth better. :p

This jvc is the oldest example of camcorder technology still in production.

    Its analogue, not digital.

It has no firewire for digital transfer.

    It has very poor resolution.

    No lcd flip viewfinder.

If you are NEW to camcorders it may seem that what I'm saying is not important. But Do not be overwhelmed by its low price.

These are being off loaded so they can be sent to the Betamax section of tecnological history.

There are far better recording medium's, and the jvc vhs compact is or should be about to disappear.

    Mini Dv tape
    Dvd+/-RW
    HDD (hard disc drive)

How many experienced camcorder user's reading this are thinking of buying this item? I'd be interested to know?

I did not give the Samsung as an example as a particularly good camera, it was just an example based on price.

I would pay the diference for the flip out lcd viewfinder and the better resolution and the firewire connection.

I'm certainly not. I did briefly think though that it might be fun for the money for an enthusiastic child. But then I thought the modern crop of solid state minicamcorders are not much more expensive and provide connectivity to a computer which an enthusiastic child is likely to have access to.
