New York. Know where & when -just not how!!

Hi,

Looking for a little help here.

Very specific plan -just want to get the best price.

Couple. Looking for an early flight out from Glasgow to NY on the 24/12/09 returning on the 03/01/10. Want a 4 or 5* hotel in the Times Square area(have friends staying there) ideally the 'W Times Sq; or similar.

Best price travel agent has gave is just shy of 3K for the 2 of us flights and hotel, but can afford to pay outright so want to book online which i dont usually do for big trips. Any idea on where to look or even better, any quotes seeing as im pretty specific in what i want. Want to get to NY as soon as poss as to not spend Xmas eve in transit. Could leave 23/12 at night if need be but not through the day unfourtunately.

Thanks for any help that comes my way

Just had a quick look about and I would say £3k for the specifics you require is about right.

10 nights in a 4 or 5 star hotel with flights to NY at one of the most expensive times of the year is not gonna be cheap.

Personally I would shelve the aspiration of a 4 or 5 star hotel as you probably wont be spending that much time in your room if you are making the most of NY.

Looking on expedia, where you can stagger your payments, and pay by cc with no surcharges and get quidco and nectar points the same holiday is £3011, flying with BA. However somewhere like the Grand Hyatt, which is a 3 and a half star and 1 mile from times sq, is £2.5k.
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

    Hi,

I stayed in the Crowne Plaza which is very close to Times Square. The location was great, Broadway at 47th st if I remember right. This was back in 2000 mind you. Even then it was £200 a night and room only!! We splashed out a bit as it was a special treat for my mum. Also flew from Glasgow via Amsterdam with KLM but I think Continental do direct from Glasgow. I think you'll pay a lot because of the time you want to go. I would consider 3* as no doubt you'll be out most of the time anyway.

Thanks for all the advice and info.

It gives me a better idea where to look. Going via Amsterdam with KLM is an option, it will still get us to NY as a sensible time on Christmas Eve. I know we will not be spending all our time in the hotel and i am sure the crowne plaza and the like are great -but this is a special trip, and we really would like a 4 or 5* hotel on this occasion. Its just how to get the best price.

...So what im reading into from all your advice is to book the flight and hotel seperately, flights through travelsupermarket.com etc, and the hotel through hotels.com or hotwire(i have heard of this but not sure how this works).

Can anybody else recommend any 4*+ hotels in the Times Sq area that are cool and hip for people in there 20's along the lines of the W.

Thanks again for all the help.
