I know setting up a router wasn't going to be easy for me anyhow but i've got a problem and its not even connected to the pc yet, the thing is i've got a wire (ethernet?) that goes from the router to the pc, but there is no socket on the pc only a usb. Can i buy a wire that will go from the router to the pc, if so what is it call and wheres the best and cheapest place to get one or will i have to send it back.

What you need is a network card. Drop by at any of your local PC shop, shouldn't cost you more than £5 for one. Maplin has one at £4.99 ( http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32002&criteria=network%20card&doy=18m4 ).0

thanks Toxteth_OGrady
if your showing me this does that mean there isn't a wire to do the job. Can you tell me whats involved in fitting it I did once put some more ram in but this looks like it may be a bit harder than that. I'm not really techie but will have a go if i know what to do.0 -
It's as easy as fitting RAM.
The network card will provide a socket in your PC that will connect to the socket in your router and, as you correctly deduced, you will also need a wire to make the connection. Should have been one supplied with your router.
If not you need a Cat5E UTP Ethernet RJ45 Patch cable (strait-thru not crossover). You can by these in just about any length for a few quid.
Cable will look like this. Sounds from your first post like you already have tha cable.

I have the wire that came with the router so i will have to buy one of those card. I found this web site (hope this works) http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/its/resnet/desktopcard.shtml
to show how to fit it doesn't look much harder than putting in ram so will have a go0 -
Grimbo, it really is that easy. I presume it isn't a laptop you are using, before we go any further
