credit cards for student

Options
Hi there I just wanted to know if anyone has been able to obtain the post office credit card or tesco credit card, whilst putting down there occupation as a student?

I read on another post that a person being unemployed and getting refused for credits card then changed there occupation on the post office application to homemaker then was accepted? all within a few days of each appication.

I thought any descreponcies are picked up by national hunter. Would a sudden change in occupation be picked up?

Tesco is fine as they don't ask about employment/salary.

Post Office is one of the hardest to get so i'd forget that one! Whoever told you this about being a homemaker is talking rubbish lol, its not that simple cos they would have to add a salary and this would then flag with N Hunter and give a big fraud alert to all recent checks made within the last 6mths.

Put simply, they must be talking rubbish! Cos anyone who said in one application that they earn £0 and was unemployed to then go apply again in a matter of days with a new occupation and salary would be flagged for inconsistencies. Not saying this alone would make it reject, but put it this way they would do a lot more checks and write asking you for payslips and P60 and bank statements.

BOI / PO cards are full mainstream and employment/income is necessary to qualify for the card. Different if your partner works then they apply and add you as a secondary user.....

Lloyds tsb do a student mastercard though l dont know the difference between this and Platinum and advance mastercards at Lloyds Tsb. Maybe someone can explain the difference between these mastercards.

I got the egg card (19.9%) while stating student as my occupation, and cap one classic (30.34%), did include student loan and any parental contribution on my income though

LOL, have already read it and to be honest it doesn't ring true. The only way she would have been accepted by the PO is if she blatently lied and added a salary in there which as a 'domestic engineer' (to give it the correct name) would be a lie because there would be a section on 'other household income' to which she would add the partner salary.

I cannot appreciate the integrity of her posts as she has already proved to be a liar. Thus I still believe it to be untrue, but she now has a job (allegedly).....

I'm not just a sceptic but for the same respect, I don't believe everything I read and somethings just do not add up. I kinda understand the fraud element (well quite a lot in fact) and know 199% that she would have failed N Hunter and being PO (BOI) are avid supporters of N Hunter I would assume they would have picked up on the 'fabrication of truth'.

Thats all i'm saying on it lol - take it as you will but it's a new one to me and I can prove I have the BOI Gold Card - its all over this forum! Sub Prime thread and a few others.....

Its not so much a difference with student mastercard and other mastercard, its a difference with student bank and other bank! i.e. the terms are for each banking group - mastercard is the brand - pure and simple (it also processes payments between the banks of merchants and purchasers that use its MasterCard brand).....

Therefore you need to go online and look at each card you're interested in and then click the summary and this is what you compare - i.e the rates, repayment, limit etc etc

Most student cards come with standard £500 limits so you cannot get into as much debt with a student account, also student cards are usually issued by the bank you have a student bank account with!

  • I would like to know how the poster Never in doubt knows I have already been proved to be a liar? I am not in the habit of posting lies on forums. I was inspired to try for a credit card by a friend who has had applied for many cards over the years putting her occupation as homemaker and including her partner's salary. I decided to try this myself and have been accepted by the PO with a credit limit of £2100. There is an option for "homemaker" on the application form and no section for other income. I have never heard of National Hunter but obviously I have satisfied the PO's requirements. There was never any "fabrication of truth" on my application or any intent to deceive readers of this forum. Surely the whole idea is for consumers to try to beat the system? I wished to pass on information to people who might be in the same position as myself and have been surprised by the hostility of some posters.

For the OP - try a Barclaycard student card - they accepted me the day I turned 18, £200 limit but quickly increased after I'd paid off the first bill
