additional card holder

Hi

I have recently been appraoched by my bank offering me a loan. When i went to see them about it I explained i didn;t think i would get it as I had recently tried for a credit card and had been refused. they told me that everything looked ok from their end - the way i ran my account etc nd they felt it would be fine.

When they did the credit check - it was refused. i have had a copy of my eqifax credit file - there is nothing on there that would indicate a serious problem. All scores are zero as i've paid my bills on time, never defaulted or anything. however, i am an additional card holder with my partner who is in an IVA - would this affect MY credit rating also???

Feel a bit lost as i don't understand the whole credit file thing - there are some serches on it for property valuations - I've never owned a house!!!

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps I'm just a cynic but...

Banks like to give credit cards to people who DONT run their finances well! (If you pay off bills at the end of the month etc and score well on a credit search then you may not be of interest to them, the profit from you would be minimal!)

Strictly speaking, you should have your OWN credit rating not affected by your partner however the joint account card may flag something of interest for your creditors - presumably you were responsible for the remainder of any debt on the card not covered by the dividend in your wife's IVA proposal!?

Lastly, if you feel there are any items on your credit search which do not belong - the property valuation searches - then speak to Equifax and have it corrected. You have this right according to the Data Protection Act... they must only keep accurate information about you!
Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?
