Student loan problem mayor meltdown

I was just handing in my Access to Learning found form when they looked at all my paperwork. They found that I was not getting my tuition fees paid for by my LEA. Apperently my parents are earning over the threashold so they should be paying it for me. This is a huge shock to me because I thought it had been paid for at the beginning of the year. There is no way I would be able to pay £1275. My parents can't help me at all as they are in finacial diificoulty themselves..

The ironey is that I have been staying in halls of residence and have not received any letters to say that I owe them money. If I drop out then I would still have to pay the money I owe. But if I stay I would have to pay plus two more years of tutition fees.

What should I do? Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be great.

I think i'm goin to be in the same kind of situation next year, because my dad has a new job. And probably wont get any tuition fees paid. If this is the case i dont think im goin to be able to continue in HE as my dad is in finantial difficulty too. He can't help that much. I have just had a letter syain i now have to pay this years tuition fees as we were changed to non-means tested something or other. I cant afford that + i must pay back over 600 of loan they ="overpayed me"

aav, did your original letter telling you what you were entitled to not say that you (or your parents) were expected to pay the fees? I'd recommend that you get that letter out and look at it.

Although I am surprised they have not been in touch with you before this!

If you get the access to learning fund, can you use that? I'm sure that makes a pretty good argument for needing the access grant!

No the ALF cannot use it for my fees. If they know I am using the grant for that they woon't give it to me.
