Walking Hadrian's Wall for 'Little Hearts Matter'

Hi,

On February 28th 2010 I (with a few others) am going to walk the whole length of the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail to raise money for Little Hearts Matter.

Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is an unbroken 84 mile trail stretching from coast to coast, from Wallsend in the east to Bowness-on-solway in the west.

We are hoping to complete the 84mile trek over 6 days. It has been quite some time since any of us have done any serious walking and it is likely to be a lot of hard work.

If you need further incentive to sponsor us, you'll be pleased to know that we are likely to get very cold and wet as we have foolishly decided to undertake this walk in late February/early March!

So why are we doing this? Well my 18 month old son was born with a rare and major heart defect called Tricuspid Atresia. This effectively means he only has half of a functioning heart. He has already undergone Open Heart Surgery in the first year of his life and he is certain to need further Open Heart Surgery over the next few years. We are hoping to raise money for Little Hearts Matter, the charity that provide many forms of support for families of children with this, and similar, 'half a heart' conditions.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Little Hearts Matter gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now : http://www.justgiving.com/hadrianswall2010/

    Thanks

Im a firm believer that charities should be using as little of their donations on administration and costs as possible.

By using a site like justgiving does not fit in with these principles as there are other sites which are more financially advantages to charities.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

I'm aware that is the case, but since this is the current set up that this small charity has elected to use, then this is what they (and I) are stuck with.

They don't take a cut of the actual donation, just a very small slice of the giftaid ... but you are correct, there are now cheaper/free alternatives.

  • Anyway ... We successfully completed the route in the early evening of Friday 5th March 2010. It was hard work in places, but it was certainly worth it - We were very lucky with the weather and we had an amazing time. We met some fantastic people and stayed in some very nice places (with good food and ale).

We have very nearly raised £3000 for this small but fantastic charity! :D

If you haven't sponsored us yet and would like to, then please still feel free to do so as the charity can still make excellent use of your generosity.
