Has anyone been to the hypermarket for shopping, my hubby is going to Europe soon and might be going to the Tesco on the way home.
Are there any bargains to look for such as washing powder etc?

Only been to the one in City of Europe . That one only does wine beer and spirit . (or it did when I last went ) They do give club card points .Never pay more than you have too0

Head towards Citi-Europe (sp?).
There is a Tesco store for booze and at the other end of the mall is a large Carrefour.
Google it and you'll get a route.0 -
Citi Europe is a large shopping Mall with a hypermarket and a Tescos for booze. Great, if the Euro was not so low. No chance of getting a bargain at the moment. Everything in France at the moment is ridiculusly expensive.0

You can find any deals here http://www.tesco.com/vinplus/
Haven't been for about 18 months so looking to go maybe Sept.0 -
Tesco in Calais is purely for wines & spirits, various other hypermarkets in Calais and used to see a lot of people buying washing powder but there may not be such a big price difference not as the Euro is so low, We like Auchan and there is a nice wine store near there called Eastenders with a great selection. Wine may still be a good price as it is so cheap to start with. One thing I remember being cheap is cous cous!
Just one tip though, if he is paying by card they may ask if he wants the charge converting to pounds sterling. Do not do this, they convert it to sterling and charge you for this, but it goes on the card in Euros and gets converted by them too, so you pay two charges (sorry, can't remember exact details but I do know that you should not do this!).What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
If anyone is looking for wine, I would suggest Eastenders is not your first choice.
Tesco has some great offers (returned a couple of weeks age) with 6 bottles of Australian/USA wine for less then £12 (i.e. calaway crossing shiraz)
Also try sainsburys (fantastic offers on some, and not on their website).
And also Beer and Wine warehouse (part of Majestic).
Even with the poor exchange rate, we still managed to fill the car with some bargains.
We always pay with Nationwide card in Euros which givesthe best rate.
Cheers.... hic....:beer:0 -
We just got back from Paris via Calais on Wednesday and would agree with yummymummy on prices in France at the moment! Hubby nearly had a fit at 7.50euros for a pint and £2 for a bounty bar!!
We went in a couple of the wine places and had preordered from Majestic to get discount (or free ferry crossing) as we usually do. Eastenders was a washout and half empty, we went there as they had 3ltr boxes of Echo Falls white Zinfandel on website for £6 but they had none. We did get a couple of good buys in Cheers which is worth a visit tho have to admit I haven't tested all our buys yet lol
TBH a lot of the wine (or equiv) in all the places could be got at same price at some point over here when supermarkets have the 3 for £10 offers and we saw no white zinfandel any cheaper than over here and very little of it anyway. We had a crack with owner of Cheers and he said that the exchange rate and supermarket offers were hitting them hard.
In duty free at the tunnel it was the same and spirits were cheaper in our supermarkets!0 -
We've found that Carrefour in CitiEurope is better than the Tesco for wine and spirits so if your husband only has a limited amount of time he'd be better shopping there .0

We liked Carrefour too and thought it cheaper
than Tesco.I also liked Auchan too.To be honest
I like pottering round them as the choice is staggering.:j:j:j0 -
Planning on going to calais with a few of my mates in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know the address of the really large hypermarket over there. I think it is a Carrefour but my mates went a few weeks ago and said they went to Carrefour but it wasn't very big and a search on Google Maps brings up several Carrefours in Calais.
Is the one at CitiEurope the really big hypermarket?0
