  • do you work for mcvities???

If I did I would hardly be complaining about them.

I love entering competitions but lately I have been continually frustrated by seemingly brilliant comps that go tits up because the promoters haven't thought them out.

If you look back, you will see that I expressed my concerns about swapping early on. There appeared to be no rules specifically stopping it but McVities were clearly trying to make it fair by the rules that were there. I did not say people should stop, I was just uncomfortable with doing it myself.

What I can't understand is why these huge companies can't find someone with any common sense to make things clear in the first place.

By being cautious, I have won nothing so far in this promotion. It does mean that i can have 2 wins now but if I win £50 I'm not even sure if I would be disqualified for continuing if i accidentally win another £50. That's how unclear the rules still are.

The competition started on 17th August although they state allow 28days for your cheque to arrive I would have expected at least one winner to have received their cheque by now. Very slow when you think about the small number of winners they expect daily.

Mr Mutton works for the ISP which is the Institute of Sales Promotion. They can look at the rules etc and help people get their prizes if compnaies fail to deliver. x

From what I've read some sort of ombudsman regarding compettions who sorted out a problem MSE compers had with another competition.

Was curious to know who this ISP is you are all talking about so I wikipedia'ed it and found its website. Ironically one of the first articles on the ISP website is about abuse of online competitions via multiple entries by consumers!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Institute of Sales Promotions
Marketing Week has reported that the Institute of Sales Promotion is advising marketers and agencies to tighten up on terms and conditions relating to online competitions, because of a massive increase in multiple entries by consumers.

In some of the worst cases, thousands of entries have been traced back to single individuals.

loquax is a competition site & forum
  • A lottery ticket isn't the same thing at all. If you don't win you can't then pass it on to someone else and see if they win without them forking out a penny.

Some people have only bought a few packets of biscuits but have openly admitted entering 1000s of codes, that's what McVities have the problem with.

It is McVities fault for not being clear in the first place, but now by changing the rules they have also penalised people that are only entering their own codes.

All they had to do was have unique codes or limit the number of entries per person and it would have been fair for everyone.

Yes, but if the Lottery T&C's implied that tickets could be entered then passed on to someone else I would expect most people to do so!!
