Hi, looking for some advice, our tax expires today 31st july and we have a new car to pick up within the next 3 days. Am I right in thinking we have 14 days to get a new disc?

Nope, you need to get it taxed dear.
  • I have occasionally taxed my cars up to about 7 days later and have always been ok ! even on-line.

you have to tax it. and then you can get a refund on the unused 11 months once you sell the car if you sell it untaxed. be careful though, some car dealers include the tax disk in thier valuation of a trade in.....

No. You need a tax disc to cover the entire period. But you can get your tax disc and then as soon as you get your new car, post it back and get 11 months worth of refund. So you're only paying 8.3% of the total. So even on a £155 tax disk you're still only talking £12.87.

One question to ask your self...

Would you do this with your car insurance?

As us dealers can't claim the disc back, ask the dealer to buy it off you or just send it in your self.
