Bought used car - V5 states more keepers than what dealer told me

I bought a used car from a main dealer about 2 months ago and the V5 for the car finally came through yesterday (after me chasing it up) and it states it has 2 keepers. However, when I bought the car the dealer said its only had 1 previous owner and give me a copy of the HPI check that states it has only 1 keeper. I'm slightly cheesed-off with it as I thought it had only one previous owner and made the car more attractive to buy. Is this something worth pursuing or am I being picky for nothing?

1 previous to the owner at the time you brought it."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Surely if it's had 2 owners, they can't get away with saying "one previous owner"?? Using that logic, they could claim a one owner car had "no previous owners". Was it maybe "pre-registered" with the original selling dealer before being initially sold?
No harm contacting your Trading Standards people for advice before you decide whether to pursue.0 -
If it was pre-reg by the original selling dealership would that explain it. Dunno. Someone more knowledgable than me about such things will no doubt be along shortly to help.
I can see why you're annoyed though. I would be too. But that's part of the reason I only buy new cars and bikes. My first Nova was 2nd hand but since then I've only had new. I like to know what has happened to them plus putting that first 100 miles on a new car is cool

only way that is legit is if the dealer is an owner?things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

and it states it has 2 keepers.
What does the V5 actually say? It will be worded number of former keepers then number, if 1 then thats what expected and you as second owner, if this is 2 (or more) then you have been misled. Have you got a print of advertisment etc as chances are Mr Dealer will say no we didnt say only one previous owner, what HPI document, we didnt show you one.0 -
The V5 states 'No of former keeper:2' The car is registered on Nov 2005 and the previous keeper acquired on may 2006. So that will make me the 3rd keeper then.
I didnt check the V5 when I bought the car, I know I should have but he handed me the HPI/Autocheck Report (by Experian) and because its from a main dealer which is reputable around here, I didnt think any more of it.. It's basically a one page print out that states its previously had one keeper and the car details and that the search was ran by the dealer I bought it from.0 -
As per the above, if the original dealer that sold it pre-registered the car then that would show up as a previous owner.
I once bought a new car (it had basically come off the line onto the back of a lorry and hadn't even had its pre-road checks when I took delivery), and when I registered it I became the second owner.0
