Decent euro cylinder lock recommendation

Options
I've got hinged upvc patio doors with the usual lift handle multi-point locking and a euro cylinder lock. However after my neighbor was broken into I've discovered these locks are next to useless.

Do any experts out there have any recommendations for a lock that is as snap and bump proof as possible?

Thanks

    Hi Terryya

Sorry to here about your neighbors misfortune for a budget price the ICl cylinder is fantastic for security Its anti bump, anti snap, anti drill and pick. there are lots more locks on the market like the Cisa Astral s not anti bump IIRC but still a fansastic lock for its Anti snap protection, Also a nice price to go with it thought!

The main thing people get wrong with Euro locks is having too much lock sticking out of the handle leaving it vunrable to attack, Your locks NEED to be flush with the outside handle leaving them nothing to attack.

    Thanks Jon

    I used:-

Very helpful on the phone, speedy with order.
  • Anyone looking for anti snap protection dont be missled by some of these exspensive so called anti snap cylinders like the ones mentioned.

THEY CAN BE SNAPPED and it only takes a few more seconds than a standard lock.
I snapped a cisa astral s yesterday and i had the door open in under 20 seconds. The lock was flush with the handle too!!

(I know this isnt the usual way for a locksmith to open a door but the lock was being replaced anyway)

The only locks I fit now are Avocet ABS. now they really do work.

( YES they can be snapped, but once the lock is snapped access to the door mech is denied) This lock really does stop the burglars.

If anyone would like any advice on these you can contact me on Info@lockworks.co.uk

    Always happy to help.

Avocet and Milenco* (may be two L's)
make anti snapping locks, they are expensive but probably worth the investment, since they protect all your worldly possessions.
At the end of the day a determined burglar will always get in so probably just as important to install a decent alarm system.
Most locksmiths will also fit alarms and cctv. Just avoid the nationwide companies like Reactfast or Able that will charge 3x more than your local locksmith
  • One of my neighbours had a break-in last year - the burglars broke one of the handles on the patio doors at the back and then wrenched the euro cylinder until it snapped (they obviously broke the handle so the lock would stick out far enough for them to snap it).

I've now got a mixture of Avocet and Garrison locks fitted to my doors and also invested in some pas24 door handles (more of a deterrent than anything) - in theory, the door handles make it a bit harder for anyone to get to the lock to be able to snap it.

If you're thinking of buying new locks then I'd recommend fitting them yourself rather than paying a locksmith - it's really easy to do.

Another inexpensive option is to fit 'sash jammers' to all your upvc door frames. Flip them down, and they securely hold the door to the frame from the inside, so the door can't be opened from the outside even if your locks have been compromised.

Not much use if you're out of the house though. Also, they look a bit ugly IMO and you have to remember to engage them when you're in.
