Help Needed Writing Letter of Complaint!

Hi All,
need a bit of help wording a letter of complaint to Alliance & Leicester.
The situation... my girlfriend and I opened a joint account for shared bills, etc., with A&L when we moved in together and I put £100 in. In the end we never used it, it was too much hassle when we could just divvy up the regular payments fairly between us.
18mths or so later we get a letter from A&L to say that the account is overdrawn and we are going to be charged £5 a day! As the account has never been used it came as a shock to say the least. We phoned to find out what had gone on and as we hadn't been using the account they were debiting a charge every month until my £100 was gone. Incidentally, the account was 6p in the red to trigger the £5 a day charges!
Anyway, I closed the account and they waved the outstanding 6p (thanks:rolleyes:). OK, I know it was our fault for not reading the T&C's but it seems a little harsh and I feel a bit like I've been swindled out of £100.
So... anyone know any good approaches for a complaint, possible legislation that might help, form letters, etc.? My personal current account is with Abbey, both part of Santander now, so I was thinking threatening to move that account might be a good stick to use.
Cheers,
Stuart

This is likely to fall into the unfair bank charges ongoing legal saga. The banks are just putting these cases on hold pending the final judgement. There's loads of info on the main MSE site about this, worth doing a search, should tell you all you need to know.0

Why were they debiting the account? Is it one where you have to deposit a minimum of £x a month or be charged?0
