Hi I am considering moving my broadband to TalkTalk, having been with AOL for years. Can I keep my aol email address or not. If I can, how would I do it?
Thanks in anticipation.

AOL will close your email address once your not a paying customer anymore, they wont let you keep a service when you no longer have a subscription with them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

As CIS said, this is one of the small sacrifices you make when changing ISP.
It's a good idea to have a 'permanent' web based provider such as Hotmail, Yahoo, GMail etc, independent of your ISP.
In your case, I guess the best thing to do is email all your contacts just before you leave AOL and give them your new address. Also remember to change the contact details for any web sites you're registered with.0 -
The "@aol.com" part of your email address means that you are on the AOL domain, using their mail servers to receive and to send email.
If you moved house, could you expect to keep your old house address for letters? Would the new inhabitants allow you to send letters from their address?
Royal Mail would redirect received post, for a fee, and so could AOL (if they wanted to!) but how could you send emails from an AOL email address? Consequently, as previous posters have said, you would need to use a new TalkTalk email address and/or get an ISP-independent one.

PS In passing, do you think that TalkTalk broadband will be introduced free of major problems, or would you think it would be a good idea to wait a few months to see how it pans out? It's a non-trivial exercise, and only parts of it are under their control!0 -
this is one of the reasons i bought my own domain name with e-mail. yes i do pay but it works out at £0.69/MONTH domain name registered for 2 years with that you get 5 email address,
so if you change ISP your e-mail stays the same0 -
Aol offered me a basic internet service with them when I finished it was only a few pounds per month. I didnt take them up.0

Thanks for all the info, but have since found out that I live in the 30% area of the uk that TalkTalk can't offer free broadband to, but they will for £10 per month. Should have checked that first!!0

Even if you actually could have got TalkTalk broadband, you would have found it interesting to read this report...
