Licence Fee - Is it worth it?

If you think that having adverts in ITV and Channel 4 are bad... you only need to go to Spain, where a film or a soap can be cut so many times and for sometimes 20 minutes that you cannot follow what is going on. Furthermore the programme offered are consistantly bad as there is no enough money to produce good production. I'll say leave alone.0

Hi, I don't know if someone has posted this already but check out the following website
http://www.tvlicensing.biz/
It is perfectly legal to own TV receiving equipment as long as it is not used to receive UK TV so if you only wish to play computer games, watch pre recorded dvds or video tapes or watch foreign TV via a custom sat system - you do not have to pay - write to TV Licence People at
http://www.tv-l.co.uk/index.jsp
and ask them to confirm this in writing to you - I have not paid for years as I choose to not receive - all you have to do is write to them to inform them of your intention to detune your TV are remove the signal cables then stop paying.
Hope you find this useful - Cheers Dave. TV Licence Refusenic

The problem with most comments is that not many people differentiate between the licence fee and the BBC.
The government makes you purchasing a Broadcast Receiving Licence. It has nothing directly to do with the BBC. The government then give the BBC some money. You are paying to receive radio, TV and satellite broadcasts and NOT simply paying the BBC.
If the BBC was not funded this way do you really think the government would let you receive independent broadcasts for free? Most licences are simply to generate revenue for the government so at least this way we get something back! You will find it is actually very cost effective.
For about £2.50 a week it includes radio and TV for the entire household. Compare that with the cost of a newspaper every day. Do you know how much you pay in advertising when you buy goods? You will find you pay considerably more to manufactures and suppliers so they can spend on advertising on TV. You are actually paying far more for independent entertainment than you pay to the BBC.0 -
No, for the beeb I think it's totally wrong to make people pay this stealth tax, we all know that it all it is.
I pay and watch SKY so it's very rare I switch to BBC, If folk want to watch BBC then they should pay for it.
The BBC brown nose right up the governments a**. And are far far far to "PC" for my liking.
Okay, they have had some fantastic classics like Fools and horses, but so have ITV in the past.
I wouldn't lose any sleep if the BBC went off air tonight.
(I think my kids may if cbeebies went off air though.)
I would more than likely still pay to have it, even only for cbeebies it's self, I just don't like being told I MUST PAY FOR THIS OR FINISH UP IN COURT. what ever happened to living in a free country.
Plus I've not had Radio 1 on since DLT Mike Reed, Simon Bates, Steve Wright and Gary Davies left, I defected when the rotten Chris Evans joined the station. I only listen to independent local radio now i.e.: Leicester Sound, Heart Fm, SGR, or Rugby Fm, AND NO I'm not just an old f*rt that likes the old music from the 60 70 80, I've been a DJ for 25 years and I just don't like Radio 1 anymore, it went as low as the cr*p in the sewers, if it was a independently run station it would have gone bust along time ago.
I may change my opinion when it all goes digital and HD finally comes in but till then it’s still has to be;
“NO”
I took my wife Tracey, out for a meal on her birthday tonight. Maybe I'm still annoyed about the selfish bloke in the restaurant that smoked none stop all the way through his meal, maybe I’m just venting my anger out on the BBC, but I think the BBC should now be pay to view.
Martin Can we have a vote on smoking in restaurants. Or in fact anywhere where food is served.

It perhaps sounds stupid but i do resent having to pay for a tv licence when i already spend so much much ion sky, and oly watch a couple of programmes on bbc, ok so i listen to the radio but only first thing in the moring when chris moyles is on. the kids don't watch cbbc or anything.Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0

I resent paying for both.
Got sky cause there was nout to watch on tv. What happened to all the good old british dramas. So got sky. And all they show on there are repeats.
Thought the point of getting sky was that you were heads up, but still have to pay for box office or rent dvd's..
Anyhow very rarley watch tv now.. would rather read a book... I tune in for only a handful of programmes per week but make sure i watch the news everyday.
But I your tv licence also includes radio too.MFWB

  I'm sure there's probably a straightforward answer to this but, I'd (as an NHS employee) like to understand why the BBC, as a publicly funded body, does not have to disclose DJ etc. salaries?
I don't really mind paying the licence fee, but it sickens me when I hear Chris Moyles etc. getting free trips all over the world at our expense. At a time when nurses are being made redundant across the country it seems pretty awful that other 'public services' can afford to pay such hugely inflated salaries and send their employees on regular jollies!0
