Defiant wrote:Just who do you think you are trying to kid Dan29 ?. The council tax pays for essential services many of which benefit the community and don’t have any commercial alternatives. The mighty BBC does have alternatives as I’m sure you know being employed by the BBC (Yes an old argument you guys keep repeating)
Perhaps you could stay on topic and come up with a real argument next ?
Unlike your thinly-veiled racist rantings?.0 -
Dan29 wrote:Unlike your thinly-veiled racist rantings?
As expected he's stayed off topic and then gone on to accuse me of being racist without backing that up either
Now I've never seen a BBC employee do this beforeWhats up Dan ran out of ammo to defend you're employer with

Would you two ladies take your arguement to PM's please? An open forum is not the place for mud-slinging.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I agree if you look I did ask him to get back on topic however he decided to throw unfounded accusations at me for highlighting evidence the government/BBC didn't want people to see0 -
Dan29 wrote:If you pay council tax you're paying for loads of services you don't use.
Yes I pay council tax. Yes it annoys me, but I do use a lot of the services, but hate picking up the tab for those that wont and dont pay and put my prices up.
Still, I use roads, lighting, my bins are emptied, I have the use of emergency services should I need them etc.
So I wouldnt class that like the BBC.
As for the post about 'yes you can'. Howcome a person down the road from me got told to remove an old radio from his home? This radio had a 7 inch screen in it which was a TV (was from the 70's or something!!). Someone shopped him as they were jealous (he was doing his 3rd house up, hence having the radio in there). He got a letter stating to remove it or face this, blah blah. The screen was covered in paint even! Trivial and pathetic but complete and 100% truth.
He didnt use the TV, it was not hooked up to an aerial, but he had an aerial in the loft rigged and ready to go. He simply got a new radio. All he did was listen to the radio while doing his houses up.0 -

Paul_Herring wrote:And blatantly incorrect - he didn't have to get rid of it, nor did he have to buy a TV licence to keep it. I'm sure TVL were told he "had a TV," not "he had a TV that was unusable."
TVL which is run by Capita (some say using Nazi like tactics) theaten anyone who buys a TV because they presume everyone to be guilty and ont innocent until proven guilty so I'd suggest you get you're facts right
and if you contact them they still don't take you're word and insist on nosing around your home
This is one they sent me last week (sorry I don't have a scanner)OFFICAL WARNING – THIS PROPERTY IS UNLICENSED
You are hereby notified that we have authorised officers from our Enforcement Division to visit your home and interview you under caution, as our records show there is still no TV Licence at this address and as yet we have not received no response to previous communications from you.
Your statement will be taken in compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, and is the first step in our action to prosecute if we find evidence that you watch or record television without a valid licence,
I feel it is my duty to inform you that if found guilty, you could receive a maximum fine of £1000, and your name will be added to our National Enforcement Database. We take this offence very seriously and last month alone we caught 21.718 people
To avoid an appearance in court before a magistrate I would strongly advise you to call 666 or buy a TV Licence online at https://www.givetheBBCyourmoney.co.uk
Yours faithfully
Richard Goodbody
Regional Enforcement Manager
Yes the SS are alive and well but work for TV Licensing these days0 -

Paul_Herring wrote:Since I was quoting someone talking about a very old, defunct TV that doesn't work, not buying a new one, I think I had my facts entirely correct. Perhaps you could spend more time paying attention to your own facts.
Tha FACTS still remain if you own a TV the BBC's TV Licensing still believe you should give them money whether you watch live transmissions or notPaul_Herring wrote:My advice is to contact them, like they're asking.
Try educating yourself on this matter and you'd know thats a complete waste of time. YOU ARE GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT IN THE EYES OF YOUR FRIENDS AT THE MIGHTY BBC.
Who knows Paul one day you may get used to the FACT that people wish to watch the true FTA channels without being forced to subsidise you and you're friends0 -

You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV.
On the other hand, if you don't posess a TV, but your PC is capable of receiving a TV signal and showing you the programmes, then you require a TV licence, even though you don't own a "TV"Defiant wrote:Try educating yourself on this matter and you'd know thats a complete waste of time. Anyway, rubbish. I've had some of those letters you've scanned in. I've rung them up to explain the situation, both at my logings, and my mum's house after she moved out, and they stopped sending their letters. Granted they said they would stop for only 3 months, but where I live they appear to have stopped sending them completely. The only reason you're still getting them is you appear to be point blank refusing to contact them. Or if you do, you're going completely the wrong way about it. (I lost my rag one time on the phone to them complaining about the letters - didn't do much good but made me feel better at the time, was much calmer on the next letter, and they stopped.)Defiant wrote:Who knows Paul one day you may get used to the FACT that people wish to watch the true FTA channels without being forced to subsidise you and you're friends
And why do you feel it necessary to attack people personally - I'm the second person you've done it to on this thread.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
