Getting a refund on a wardrobe

Hi there,
My boyfriend and I bought a lovely wardrobe, measured everything up so we knew it would fit...except the height. It never occurred us that a wardrobe would be too high for the ceiling.
There is absolutely no way it will fit in, even after taking stuff off. We called where we bought it from and they refuse to take it back.
I know we were in the wrong for not measuring the height of it first, but is the manager right to refuse our refund? He is saying that because it is and end of line, he wont be able to shift it and he doesn't want it in his store.
Is he right or do we have any rights to take it back and get a refund?
If not, does anyone want to buy a fab new wardrobe?!?!?

Not good news I'm afraid. The store has no reason to refund you on what is essentially a change of mind, if the wardrobe was faulty you would have grounds but being too tall is not a fault. Sorry to say you are stuck with a giant wardrobe.0

Surely you could ask to swap it for another or failing that get a credit note.
I mean its in the shops best interests to ensure your a happy customer.
If they refuse those options Id say something like "Look you can either be reasonable or I'll be telling everyone and their dog about how badly Ive been treated here"
Id done that before when theyve refused to play ball. Dont be too aggresive but try to be stern and insist its the decent thing to do.0 -
thanks for replying....appreciate all the help...Now on to ebay to sell the thing then!0

I used to work in a furniture store and people were always trying to get refunds on items that did not fit and the store manager would have to refuse. I did see on more than one occasion the manager taking the goods back and allowing the customer to pick something else would always cause problems - I remember someone being given a store credit using it to buy something else then attempting to cancel that item to get the cash back!
Is it the stores fault that you forgot to measure the hight of the wardrobe?
I am sure the store could take it back but it seems all they would get is a wardrobe that would likely have to be sold at a discount.
Hopefully you will find it a good home on Ebay0
