Sky Box consumption

you also have to remember if you turn your box off at night you will miss any software and coding updates sky send to the box which over time could cause you trouble
If there is no power supply to the box when the updates are sent then they will be downloaded when power is restored to the box so the updates will still be received. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

I was told by a friend who works for SKY it dosent work like that. If the download is sent and the power is off you dont get the update until the next one is sent, if the box is on. The same applies if you unplug the box from the phone line.
An example on the flip side, if you order a Sky Box Office and unplug your box overnight you dont get charged as they cannot dial in overnight to confirm you watched the film! This can roll on for months until they can dial into your box.0 -
So sooner or later you are going to get charged aint ya!
I still think the update would be caught later on, they prob send a signal out every night for people that perhaps might have had a power cut or not able to receive the update for whatever reason.
This is how it works with virgin media, the box requests the updates when it is switched back on.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

I hate this misinformation. Sky do not dial into your box.
Sky sends a signal over the satellite telling your box to "phone home"
And yes they will send you a bill a year later if you plug the phone line back in.
I once ordered a film while the phone line was unplugged. A year later I had something wrong with the box so I was told to plug the phone line in and do an update. I forgot to unplug the phone when it was done and 2 months later I was billed for the film. Of course I had forgotton all about ordering the film and phoned Sky to complain but after them telling me what the film was and when I remembered:eek:
