Insurance quotation - credit search

I am very annoyed to find a company called RBS PLC IRO OF PRIVILEGE have conducted a credit search (under the application type it says Insurance Quotation) on me, just because I went on a price comparison site to search for home insurance!

I haven't even decided on a policy yet and only got one company - not RBS! - to send me a quote in the post. I am annoyed they have searched my file.

I hope this isn't going to affect my credit file! :mad:

It is an unrecorded "soft" search which has no effect on your credit score and cannot be seen by those who search your file.

Thanks, that's a relief anyway.

Do you know why they do that when you haven't even taken a policy out with them? I could understand it if I had taken the policy out, but just looking for quotes seems pointless.

I think they do it "in case" you take the policy out. I had a few (from Direct Line and others) when I was searching for my car insurance a few months back.
