right number, wrong person

Options
I have noticed that when we ring some numbers on phone (which are correct numbers for people we know) we are getting through to other people. obviously we then get charged for these mistakes. what do people recommend? apart from double checking each number is there an easier way of checking up on this as this seems to be happening quite a lot. some kind of monitoring system within having to double check number by number ???

It may be that one of the digits is double-dialling.

thanks to everyone but not sure that this is what i mean:
It may be that one of the digits is double-dialling.

as have a digital phone it displays the number so i know that the number is
    correct.

this happens quite a lot but end up getting charged all the time. anyone got
    any similar experience?

When you get the bill the calls will be listed. Look at the list and take note if there are any numbers with two digits the same, for example if you wanted to dial 0123456 and the list shows 01223456 it would be clear that the handset is misdialling the digit '2' on occasion. In this example the number you wanted to call was 0123456, but the number you actually called was 0122345. This example assumes that telephone numbers are all sevens digits, which of course they are not, but it serves to demonstrate.

I note that you have a digital phone which shows the digits dialled. However, it is still possible for it to double-dial a digit without displaying it has done so. A more reliable test would be to compare the number dialled with the one shown on your bill.

Another way that you can test if the handet is misdialling is to try another handset for a period and see if the fault stops.
