Can Motability car be used to take a driving test?

Hi - my 1st post. I was told you guys would be able to help me.

My husband receives high rate of DLA, and has had a Motability vehicle. With time he has found it more difficult to drive (I dont drive)

So I started taking driving lessons and have a practical driving test booked for September 09 as I would like to be able to share the burden of driving on my husband.

Would I be able to use the Motability vehicle to take the driving test?

My driving instructor has suffered a stroke and his vehicle matched my husbands. (The instructors vehicle is now a write-off) and we cant find another instructor in our area who offers an Automatic car - only 4 weeks to go before my test.

I am a named driver on the insurance documentation (we submitted my Provisional Licence to the dealer at the start of the agreement), so I am covered.

I understand it shouldnt be a problem - but we might have to purchase Road Tax (the current tax disc has 'Nil' in the cost box.)

Would appreciate any info on how to proceed.

Many thanks and apologies for a long winded (desperate) 1st post

I'm thinking about letting my sister use mine for her driving test, to be honest it hadn't occurred to me that it might be a problem. The way I see it is that her passing her test means she can go to the shops/chemist/etc for me, and drive me to and from appointments etc, so it does count as being for my use, in a big way! That's not an official answer, just my opinion.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I'd say no problem provided a) you are insured which you say you are and b) the car's being used to benefit the recipient of DLA (and passing a test so you can drive your husband would seem to me to qualify)

    But if in doubt, call Motability 0800 0931000 / 0845 456 4566.

    1) Yes I am and we have a cover note to confirm this

    2) Oh most definately to benefit the recpient! I'd have no desire to be driving otherwise.
