Our photographer drove from Sutton In Ashfield, Nottinghamshire down to Silverstone in Northants and didnt charge travel expenses. He came at 10am took pictures of the outside of the venue, pictures of me and BMs getting ready, hubby and best man arriving in my hubbys bosses Jag, guests arriving, final preparations for me and BMs, BMs going down aisile, me and dad walking to aisle, all pictures during ceremony and reportage style pictures afterwards, posed pictures with family and friends all the way through till about 9pm at night doing speeches, first dance and more reportage shots. We then got all pictures copyright free on CD in hi quality res - one set in black and white, one in colour a 50 page album with pictures of our choice plus six 10" by 8" prints of our choice.

    All for £550 :)

Was a fraction of what other people were quoting us and he was a really nice bloke and everyone said they didn't even notice him during the day. I found him through the classifieds on Ebay of all places!

That's a great deal for you Fairy Shazza but this poor guy was doing all this for next to nothing. I will bet he made less than £100 profit for probably a weeks work. However it sometimes had to be done when you are starting out.

It all works out good in the end.

Does anyone have any recommendations for photographers in the London area? We are getting married in Dec, at a stunning location but know that lighting will be difficult - and if someone can make me look slimmer all the better! It is hard to assess from someone's portfolio whether they made everyone feel at ease, or were difficult during the day. The Priest has said that only the official photographer can take shots in church, so we are desperate for them to work out right. I agree with everything that is being said here, that it isn't just about throwing money at it, you have to have someone whose photos you like, and someone you feel comfortable with. My brother had a friend do his, but they were snaps, and no better than the ones I took myself. Any suggestions gratefully received! And thanks for the pointers in this thread.

Actually he was quite upfront about the fact that the reason he charges so little is that photography isn't his main business. He used to be a full time photographer but found he never had a free weekend so he went back to his original proffession during the week and shot about 5 weddings a year as he enjoyed doing them but didn't want to be doing them every week. It wasn't about the money to him - thats what he told us anyway and I have no reaosn to think he was lying.

As someone is very much into their photography and is currently building a portfolio of my own I know excatly how much work people have to put in when shooting a wedding and believe me when I saw that we would never have exploited anyone when looking for our wedding photographer.
