Bank of Scotland only take 1% a month (£80) or add 8k to your mortgage if you can.
My wife had a credit black mark for 6 years and it does cause problems in a number of things so thats why I,m suggesting finding someway to avoid it.
good luck.
Good advice - totally agree and for the sake of £80 per month, its bound to be better. Although the transition from Euro to Pound is what will be the issue but then if the OP decides to pay for the conversion, it could still be cheaper.......:p

Sorry, but that is how it works and will work in this case as well, regardless of Euro / Sterling.
Thanks for the Geography lesson, for the second time I know the difference between NI / SE thanks all the same!
Perhaps you should have said that rather than saying and I quote "Ireland is Part of the UK after all" :rolleyes:0 -

Why? My quote is spot on! Ireland (Northern) IS part of the UK. If I have to spell things out, like that, then sorry but maybe it is those than require it spelling out that has the problem......
Bit like saying 'my sim card doesn't work' and someone asking me to mention its for a mobile phone!2010 - year of the troll

I think your missing the point - BOI can't just randomly switch licences as you say. It will have been signed up for under Irish Credit legislation & not the Consumer Credit Act (which only covers mainland Britain, and NI)
So it won't just be automatically enforceable like a credit card signed up for here, coming under the CCA.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I am still learning about the Irish elements - maybe I misread this, i'm working on the pretext of statute based on the Irish CCA (1985) & Irish Consumer Info Act (1978)...

So based on your theory, if it is not bound by the CCA (UK) then technically speaking they will not be reporting the UK CRA's - bearing in mind in order to do so you must comply with our CCA and DPA which clearly SI wouldn't do therefore they would not be allowed to report the UK CRA's.
If this is the case, then surely the OP can just 'disappear' with no worry of repayment so long as they do not return to live in Ireland? If you can clarify the finer points for us please do cos this is getting confusing now haha2010 - year of the troll

OP - Before this gets complex and wrapped up in legal jargon by the resident experts (!), has your girlfriend actually phoned BOI and told them that she is struggling?
They may be able to give her some options.

Your post is not spot on. You didn't specify wether you meant Northern or Southern Ireland, so don't get narky when people correct you.0 -

A debt collector knocks on the door and asks:
Q "Why haven't you made any payments on your super-stooze credit card?"
A "Don't ask me! I read on MSE that with what I would save, it would pay for itself in 6 months"0
