I've an itrip (wireless modulator) for my Ipod and tbh the sound is ok but not amazing, you get a certain amount of background noise but i suppose it does the job. I used to have an in-line modulator for a cd autochanger and the sound on that was marginally better but i don't think you're ever going to beat a direct audio input via either usb or 3.5mm plug

The FM transmitters are a lot worse than a cassette adaptor for sound quality.
They are not very good at all. I had one to use my MP3 player with the factory fit radio/cd in my car. The sound quality was too poor for me. I ended up fitting my old Sony MP3 head unit instead.

Be aware that the Halfords radios on offer will be last years models.
Remember the latest models are likely to have better features and be a lower price than the model they replaced. So that half price bargain might not be so good as it first appears.
If you are likely to want to connect an MP3 player then look at this years models. Many now have an aux input ( sadly lacking on many earlier models )

Well my fm modulator is amazing, better than a direct jack input and far far better than a cassette adaptor. In fact there is no difference between the fm modulator and a Normal strong fm signal, suberb stereo seperation and crystal clear.

    So speak as you find.

Some of the stereos in the sale specify IPOD inputs and the demo units show this.

So do you have the type that fits between aerial wire and aerial input on the back of the stereo, or do you have an FM transmitter?
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Is it definitely the transmitter type that Freemans sell, not the one that plugs in the back?

  • Aldi do a stereo with USB port and slot for SD/MMC cards, which will also play MP3s off a CD and is a decent spec radio/CD unit as well, for £49.99. They haven't appeared on the weekly specials for a few months, but I was in my local Aldi (Rugeley) the other week and they'd recently got some in. Haven't got round to buying one yet but they're cheaper than the ones on eBay and I think come with a 3-year warranty.
