Virgin Credit Card Missed 1st Payment deadline

I have recently got a Virgin Mastercard Credit Card and transferred a balance from another card to take advantage of the 0% balance transfer deal. I received my statement advising payment due date 30/7. Stupidly as I had provided my bank details I assumed this would be taken by direct debit, I've checked my bank today and no payment has been taken, I rang Virgin to explain and to pay and was told a DD hadn't been set up and if i paid over the phone it could take upto 3 days to clear.I was advised to do a faster payment which takes upto 2 hrs. I rang my bank and have done this but they cannot guarantee it will be in Virgin account before 4pm. I have been told by Virgin if it is not in by 4pm I will lose my 0% deal!!!! Is there anything I can do?? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Strike whilst the iron is hot and call 0800 783 1116 (customer loyalty) now.
Apologise profusely and be pleasant, ask to make a debit card payment, ask to set up a minimum payment direct debit there and then, and ask that they reinstate the 0% deal, waive the £12 fee, and don't report the late payment to the CRAs (the former is possible, but the latter two may be a little optimistic).
If you get anywhere (they don't *have* to do any of the above, which is why you need to be pleasant throughout), be sure to take a note of the CSA's name, ext number etc in case of problems later.0 -
Just to add, because your next statement will be produced in only a few days time, there's every chance the DD won't be set up in time for the next payment.YorkshireBoy wrote: »ask to set up a minimum payment direct debit there and then
Be sure to check your next statement. If it doesn't say "your payment of £xx will be taken from your nominated account on xx/xx/xx" then be sure to pay by other means.0 -
I have twice missed a payment on my 0% deal with virgin. I just rang them up, explained that we were in the middle of major house / diy works (which we actually were), and the bill got placed under something. Both times they were really helpful, refunded the £12 late charge and re-instated the 0% deal. To top it of, was the fact that it was an 0800 number and an 'english' speaking person.

I paid too early one month (you have to pay between the date the staement is produced and the 'pay by' date) as I did an internet payment. I got a £12 fine and they canceled my deals, so I phone them and they reinstated the deals and halved the fine to £6. Was pleased as I have broken their rules and they acted fairly, but a bit cross that I can only make a payment that will count between the 8th and 27th of the month.0
