Should i send 1st class or 2nd class on Amazon?

Basically, i'm new to amazon and have only made one sale so i am quite unexperienced. All my items i'm selling are DVD's + CD's which are sent as large letters using royal mail and books which are sent as either large letters or packet depending on size. I'm not selling anything expensive over £10 so i don't need the special delivery options etc.

So anyway, should i send my items using 1st class or 2nd class. Ofcourse 2nd class will be cheaper, however will take longer so may lead to complaints.

The advice my friend offered me was send 2nd class if u dispatch on the day of the "sold dispatch now" email, otherwise send 1st class. For my only sale, i dispastched same day as email and sent 2nd class and buyer said 5* no problems.

So from previous experiences, what would you recommend i do ? :o

I always send second class. Unless there is some kind of delay in sending. Say more than 3 days.

Thanks so far, however has anyone else got any personal opinions?

Also, when you say you send 2nd class, does that refer to you sending it same day or the day after the email, or? (Basically, after how many days would you switch to sending 1st class)

By the way, something unrelated. What i dont understand is they say if your sending in the UK, you must dispatch within 2 days, but it needs to be delivered within 14. Unless i'm mistaken i don't think theres a way to dispatch on the very last day allowed, and still have it arrive after 14 days?

I'm newish to amazon and sold 10 items, sent all first class on day of order as I think the buyer P&P rates are high on amazon so felt I should try get items to them asap. Got good feedback from just 2 people about the quick delivery but others no feedback all even though I sent reminder emails and don't get my started on my 1 neg and 1 netural feedback which weren't to do with postage btw.

If I'm ever lucky enough to get another sale with my crummy feedback I'll send out second as it hasn't benefit me posting out same day first class.

I'm only 16 selling stuff for my parents so haven't really had any need to :p All i've sent were letters through a postbox.

I know they can delay, but if amazon want you to dispatch by 2nd day, and 2nd class will mean its deliverd by 5 days, that would mean there is a delay of 9 days which i think is unlikely as it is probably lost by then :D

2nd class is absolutely fine, just remember that regardless of postage method used Amazon need things despatched in 2 working days. All my stff goes 2nd, unless it's too heavy then I have to use 1st.

  • I just use 2nd class as well. And have no problems. As long as its sent within the 2 days set by Amazon, its ok. If I get feedback from buyers, it good. But also, no feedback, can also mean (to me anyway), that the buyers are happy with the items they've bought
