Green Energy, is there any point???

Hi there,

I'm new to this so please don't hurt me! I've come across 2 conflicting arguements that I hope you can help me understand.

Energy Companies have been told by the Government to reach a target of a reduction of 10% of carbon emissions by 2010, and 34% by 2020. They have also said they will stop at the limit as it's too expensive to make.

The energy companies want you to pay a bit extra on your bills to help the environment by carbon offsetting and planting trees etc.

My question is, are the energy companies using your extra money to reach their target, not actually to help the planet which is what you're paying for?

I keep getting very confused by this and clarity would be a very good help.

Another question which would be of help is grants to help you save money. Will it end up with the Government charging the energy companies for the grants and then everyone else has to pay for it as they pass the cost down to us, the bill payers? If this is true and everyone in Britain did it, we'd be saving on energy but the price would stay the same, if not be higher as we foot the bill for everyone elses grants.

I hope i haven't confused you all completely by this but it's bugging me and I want to know what I pay for.

Thanks
Will

Hi Will, I would never take on a Green Energy Plan. As you suggest too open to abuse.
Best to save CO2 by economising, cutting back or one of any number of small ways, like going vegetarian and cut out the cows farting.
