Alternative Garden Water Butt?

Does anyone have any ideas, thinking laterally, about what could be used as a garden water butt. Seems to be a real paucity of them at stores where I live.

Thanks.

I'm sure they were using old tyres on Gardeners world last week. Think you had to stuff a tarpaulin inside about three of them stacked on top of each other. I guess you could paint these too if you wanted them to blend in.

In theory, anything that would hold water would work. I saw somewhere (gardening magazine?) a system where you used a plastic rubbish bin. The bin was set on bricks to raise it and a tap was inserted through the side at the lowest point. Bricks were also put inside on top of which rested a fine mesh which acted as a filter. Then a hole was cut in the lid for the drain pipe to feed into, which itself was cut shorteer than normal. The theory was that water would run into the butt, the lid would keep off the main debris, the mesh would catch anything washing down the drain and it was possible to use the tap at the bottom to attach a hose for watering purposes, although I imagine it would be pretty slow unless you had the bin raised quite high.

Anything that has a volume that can be filled with a plastic liner could be used.

How about all those supermarket trolleys that are hanging about ? you could wheel it to your point for watering :D
