He has found a car to buy its a 1999 Renault Clio 1.2. , now we are shopping about for insurance. The best we can come up with so far is just over a £1000 threw Quinn, third party fire & theft. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • iWe had a problem with them and my 17 year old son. Be very careful and read ALL the terms and conditions.
  • My 17 year old grandson recently passed his driving test and was refused insurance by the same company that insured him as a learner. A further complication was that he is a professional football player and once that is declared, the premiums just shoot upwards. The best he was quoted was around £4,000 which was ludicrous. However, after some online searching, my daughter found ProSport Insurance Services who deal specifically with sports professionals and was able to get him insured for £1400 with a £300 excess. This might be of interest to any other young sportsmen who are struggling to find reasonable quotes.

All the usual things I'm afraid in this case.
Name your parents on the insurance,
    maybe a different car

(unless the clio is one of the ones in group 2 above already)

Highest excess (you can't afford to make a claim anyway), fully comp can also be cheaper than tpf&t

Try Bell insurance for a quote, they're supposed to be good at the moment, although £1000 actually looks cheap believe it or not, so I'd take it before they change their mind if you can't get better very soon.
