  • TBH you have done alright out of the car, as most of the problems are either routine or expected problems with a car of that milage. I note you bought it on HP are you going to have a pop at the garage for the excess you have paid on your finance?

The people who run this look a bit old school dodgy but for some reason i gave the benefit of the doubt.

Is there anything i can do against the company who sold me this car. Surely some of these faults should have been evident to them.

    What are your thoughts

Why, do they have a crystal ball in their office?

Advice, follow your gut instinct next time, if they look " dodgy " they probably are.;)

The way I measure it is that you have had £820 worth of expenses and £200 of depreciation in 1 year on this old Corsa.
Compare that to a 1 year old Corsa for a year where you would not have had any of that £820 expense and about £500 in depreciation plus perhaps £350 in interest payments on a loan?

So old car cost you £1020 in repairs and depreciation.
1 year old would have cost you £850 in depreciation and possibly finance charges.
The £180 service bill would have happended to either car.

By my reconing the newer car was cheaper.

You're assuming that nothing will go wrong with the newer car? This is an unknown quantity therefore you can't factor that into your calculation.

But hopefully the newer car will have the majority of things covered by the warranty.

The 1 year old car is under warranty for at least 2 more years, on only a few miles so will be long away from clutch wearing out which probably would not come under warranty.
It's not a 100% guarantee but playing the odds your going to win with the newer car.
That is of course if you can meat the cash flow issue of funding the newer car via cash, loan or some of each. Which ever way you do it the long term average monthly expense is the real cost.

this is the reason leasing companies shift their cars at 3 years 60 or 4 years 80k.

At that point service and maintainence increases and they fall out of warranty so they move them on.

My advice would be buying your own warranty for its first year of ownership next time.

Probably cost you £300 but would give you peace of mind.

Think some even cover wear and tear repairs (but not tyres or brake pads)

Think you have been unlucky but in all honesty a five year old corsa with 85k will always have problems for the reasons described before.

Its not a exec or motorway car - its been bought as a pool car and that mileage will all be about town which means a lot more damage and wear than motorway cruising.

Put it down to experience. Next time maybe look at Hyundai or Kia if they have a 7 year warranty or buy your own one. (not through the dealer)
