and paid late. Why is affect my ability to get credit?

I am usually very good at keeping things in order. All my other cards are on direct debit and for some reason (I need to check background on this although i know i asked Tesco to put me on a direct debit but this was not done).

I am worried that although all of my payments are up to date on my other credit cards and not been paid late, i may have a default for late payment on the Tesco credit card is and therefore I may get turned down for other cards and therefore credit Could anyone enlighten me if this is definitely the case and what i can do ( i will be writing to Tesco with regard to this)

In addition to this I had MBNA mess me around on another card and this caused me a lot of stress which may be reason why i could not concentrate to get things done sooner with this one (I will be posting a message with regard to this). Any help appreciated - particularly as i would like to do a balance transfer with Barclays and i believe the offer runs out on 31 July (this friday);. thanks in advance.

Few people have confirmed recently that they've made "late" payments and it's not been reported on their credit report as a "missed" payment (they keep a nice list of 00000000000's). You can get the free 30 day trial with Experian to check if in doubt.

Even if it does count as a missed payment, 1 missed payment won't make any significant difference in an otherwise good credit report.

Put the direct debit in place to prevent happening again, be aware that they don't always get the DD in place at times that suit so check with them how long you need to make manual payments to be on the safe side.

I suspect they may be the ones who make the payment between the payment due date and the next statement date (ie in the 3-11 or so day window). Therefore it's "late", rather than "missed".

I know Halifax report the state of play as of statement date. Maybe the others do as well?

Yup, just pay the £2 statutory fee and wait a few days :)

If you've previously been down this road before and done the free 30 day trial then you should know better :naughty:

    The T&C's state...
...you may not be granted a further Trial if you have already received one (whether or not you cancelled the original Trial before the end of its Trial Period).

Note they use the word "may". Are you prepared to gamble when £6.99, or £60+ for annual membership may be charged on a "may" statement? I wouldn't...I'd get a £2 copy.
