I Wanna: Earn Some Spare Cash!

I am looking for a way to make some spare cash but by not actually having to get another job. I work full time in an office but I am looking for a way to earn some extra cash some other way. I make homemade cards as a hobbie but they can be fairley expensive to put together ie - not worth selling as would make no profit. Anyone any ideas?

  • Hi Clarabell,

Maybe you are underestimating how much people are prepared to pay for quality handmade cards ?
If its a hobby you enjoy, it could be the perfect answer if you could find an independent card shop who would be willing to try selling them.
If you were to prepare about 70 cards, supply them on a basis of payment as they sell, or take them away ........ you could have an enjoyable source of income.

How much is "expensive to put together" ?

My husband to be makes decoupage cards, and is selling them at about £2 / £2.50 a time amongst family and friends.

Shop around for the best deals on toppers and peel offs, we pay 69p for peel offs from Wyevale Garden Centre and 50p a sheet (2 designs) for decoupage

I don't wish to dash your hopes before you begin but this is what I have found with handmade cards.

My OH does it, and in my opinion they are beautiful. However, how many craft shops have you been in recently that HAVEN'T already got some handmade cards in it. Its a popular hobby. If you like making cards thats great, do it for yourself/friends/family, but I would seriously doubt if you could ever sell them on through a craft shop.

  • You could try mystery shopping. I do during my lunch hour as I too work full-time. You can make anything from £5 per mystery shop to £20. It can work out well if you get a couple to do in the same day and get travelling expenses which would pay for your travel to and from work.

Here's a way to save money on your peel-offs. Buy them from https://www.imag-e-nation.com . They sell them for 44p a sheet, post free. ;). Hope I'm allowed to put a link up, if not, sorry. (btw, no connection, just a VERY happy customer)
