Bypass AOL Talk

My phone calls currently go through AOL Talk, whilst i still apy line rental etc to BT. Because i'm not using BT i have to pay for BT caller display & answer phone.
I thought i read somewhere that you can use a pin/prefix number to by-pass AOL Talk. Once you do this Bt charge you for the call, but stop charging you for caller display etc.
Anyone know if this is true or indeed what the prefix number is please.

It used to be possible to override any CPS default call routing by prefixing calls with 1280.
However, AOL, Sky, Talk Talk and at least one other CPS calls provider which I can't now remember, changed to BT's WCLI (Wholesale Calls Line Independent) - essentially routing calls via the BT network even though you are paying them for your calls - which means the 1280 prefix now has no effect (your calls are already routed via BT so you can't override that to send them via BT).
To avoid Caller Display charges, you could get a BT Chargecard to make 2 calls per month, charging them to your BT account.

Update 17/8/09. BT company representative has now done an about-turn on this and confirmed that chargecard calls do NOT count as chargeable calls. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=24300543&postcount=11Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
