Looking through the menus, it would appear that I need to upgrade my yahoo account...

Correct, this is the same as Hotmail. POP3 is considered a 'Premium Service' and you have to upgrade to get it.

I used to use outlook with Yahoo until they made it a pay service. Now I logon to web like anybody else because i'm not willing to pay. They have just released their new outlook style interface that looks pretty dam good. Again it is only web based but for free it is very impressive. I though of changing a few times but I still belive Yahoo is one of the best and you get a hell of a lot for free (mail box size, attachment qty & size etc).

For some reason you can have POP access for yahoo .co.uk accounts, but for .com its seen as a premium service.

All you have to do is on your co.uk account go into the preferences and allow POP3 and it will give you the details you need.

also I haven't tried it but I've heard about Yahoo Pops, was a program made to get around the service charge:

Are you using @yahoo.com, or @yahoo.co.uk? As relic says, on the yahoo.co.uk email service POP3 access is free.

I've been using it successfully with Outlook without any problems whatsoever.

Just remember to enable Pop forwarding with the yahoo account when you login in online and save the changes, also here are the pop settings.

Dont forget to set your outgoing server settings to your ISP or server.

Same here. The incoming mail server is pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk, user name is the bit before the "@yahoo.co.uk" and I have the outgoing server set to my ISP's SMTP server.

If you turn on POP3 access, don't they send you advert emails? Or is that just for email forwarding?

Although it says that you receive these emails with adverts, I have never had one yet and I've been using the POP3 access for approaching a year. In fact nothing from yahoo at all... :D

I do occasionally log into the webmail and see the adverts on the login page, so I'm not sure if this makes any difference...
