nationwide having me on?

I wrote to Nationwide 1st July requesting summary of charges as per template on this site.

They wrote back to me (after cashing cheque for £10 pretty sharpish) saying they needed to validate me and had been unable to reach me by telephone. They also said they had sent my info to my nearest branch so I may collect it in person and should take ID etc etc

I have written back to them saying that none of my contact details had changed therefore couldn't see any problems with them getting hold of me. Furthermore, the branch they have sent it to isn't convenient for me to collect from so they would have to contact me again to validate my ID.

Am going to post it tomorrow but just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar letter? I noticed that they strangely enough hadn't dated the letter which made me think they were trying to get around not responding to my request in the 40 day period. I did end on this point and asked them to respond without any further delay (it has now been 27 days since they received my origianl request.

Any thoughts on this anyone?

Write back to the and state that as they had sufficient information to deal with the Subject Access Request that they have 13 days to send you the details to you home address as requested in the SAR or you will make a complaint to the Information Commissioners Office for non compliance to a SAR.

Thanks for that, I was worried that my letter was a little on the aggressive side but what you have said makes me realise that yes, they did have the info needed to respond in good time.

Just wanted to drop in and update on this. I sent the letter off and lo and behold received my statement of charges by recorded deleivery yesterday.

Again, no date on the letter which I find troubling. The statement was accompanied by a letter stating the status of the legal proceedings, complaint on hold blah blah blah.

I'm sending a letter back to them outlining financial hardship (I'm planning to go BR very shortly. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

If you go BR then any charges reclaimed would not be refunded to you but to your creditors and you will see none of it. It would forfeit your right to any future charges being given to you.

right, that makes sense. What would happen if I managed to get a payout before going br?

It would go into the account that the charges came from but would reduce the total debts owed.
Are there any credit card charges/PPI that you could claim as well or catalogue charges?

Thanks for that. If I were to be successful the charges would wipe out the overdraft I have with them and leave around 1k surplus. Would that money be mine to go towards cost of BR and other stuff? Or would I have to leave it there?

And as for catalogues- I have yet to look at the charges I could claimi if any, still need to read up on exactly whats allowed. Tbh I didn't even know you could until I joined this forum.

Thank heaven for you people giving all this great support and advice.

I think I may lobby for Martin Lewis to be knighted as soon as I've sorted my own life out!

Make sure you look at everything before you go down the BR route, ok?
And look at all things reclaiming to see how much you can reduce the overall debts.
Keep us updated as well cos we are all nosey as to how you get on and always able to lend a bit of advice as and when you need it.

Thanks for that. I am truly knackered and BR is sadly the only option (Man oh man, check out my SOA on the BR thread!

Unless some institution has siphoned the odd 30k or so there really is no other way to go
