Headset or Internet Phone?

Which is best, headset or phone for a beginner? I expect it to be only occasional use, rather than on all day.

Two trains of thought
1. phone will ring louder than your PC easy enough to hear incoming call,
2. if only being used occasionaly why waste money when a Headset can be used as headphones as well.

I've got some normal headphones and they work ok with my laptop, I need a microphone as well don't I?

for internet calls i use my standard home phone plugged into a usb converter box it will eather dial over normal landline or over the net depending if i switch over. it will allow normall landline calls if pc is off too.
