BT Line Trouble

Hi,

I have rang the BT helpline on a number of occasions, apart from being stuck in a queue on my mobile, I haven't got an great answer. This is why I have come here.

The trouble I have comes when answering and dialing out. It's almost like there is two lines coming into my house. When I answer the phone I hear the 'dialing tone' (quite loud) as well as the person on the other end, when I dial out I get the person on the other end as well as 'number not recognised' (quite loud).

I have tried different equipment so I know it's not my phone.

This problem comes and goes which is a pain because BT informed me that if they sent an engineer around and there wasn't a problem they would charge me!

Does this problem sound familiar to anybody so that I can just phone them up and tell them what it is?

Thanks for your help,
Ric

If there clearly is a problem, then you've nothing to worry about yes? :D

They always give the standard "will charge you" line, but it's well worth checking a few things before forcing the BT issue!

    1. Unplug every phone socket except the master one in your house and try it?
    2. Do you have broadband? Do you have working ADSL filters on the master and each extension socket?

I'm sure others will come up with the standard suggestions too - but reply with the obvious ones above first!

    Hi ricriley,

Oh dear, that does not sound good at all! If you want could you send me a PM with your account details? I can test your line to determine if there is a fault. Thanks Jweb2k for provided the steps to ensure the equipment is not at fault, have you carried out the steps above?

    All the best,

    Robbie

unless there is two seperate lines in your property then it has to be an external fault..overhearing another line in contact with yours somewhere along the network. ring and book an appointment to get it sorted you wont be charged
