BT Basic - Account Level Charge :-/

Hi,

I've just had my BT Basic bill, and had a minor heart attack..

Summary

£17.25

Account level 0.00
01234 56789 17.25
Total one-off charges £17.25

Any idea what the hell this is?!

I realise that I've spent quite a bit more than I planned to on calls, as I've been without a mobile for a bit, but where have they conjured this £17.25 from?

Any of you guys been charged this / successfully disputed it?

I'm on hold to BT as we speak, but I'm not holding my breath as I'll probably get through to an off - shore call centre :-/

Email 'em?

Many Thanks,

Leigh.

Don't you have online accounting with BT? Full info there.

If you've been making calls they'll charge you for them. Obviously.

If you make more than a miniscule amount of calls then you really should run away from BT Basic. A sneaky initiative from BT which, I'm sure, will lead to many distressed old folk when they get their first quarterly bill.

Calls are very expensive on BT Basic (10p/minute IIRC) so, even though the call set-up fee is low (3p IIRC), the £1.50 monthly call allowance covers less than 15 minutes of calls.

Exceed 15 minutes of calls and bills mount up very quickly.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
